Welcome to Green's Fruit Farm!
Bobby and Sara Hricko –
Growing up in Pennsylvania, we developed a strong love for its rolling hills and mountains, its winding rivers and placid lakes, and the picturesque farmland which carpets its countryside.
We met in college at Penn State where we both studied plant science. Bobby’s focus was on horticulture, Sara’s was plant pathology. At Penn State, we cultivated our love of
plants and farming as we discovered many ways in which we could positively impact our communities and the environment.
For us, building healthy, resilient agroecosystems and communities is a driving force in how we farm. What exactly does this mean? It means that
sustainability is in the forefront of our minds when making decisions; it steers our daily tasks. One example is our commitment to Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices. When faced with various pest and disease pressures, our goal is to use a combination of management strategies in contrast to relying solely on conventional chemical controls. We will be discussing many of these approaches in our ‘Farm Journal’ as we move through the year on Green’s Fruit Farm.
Harnessed with new and exciting ideas learned at Penn State while respecting the traditions set forth by prior generations who grew fruit for decades, we are very excited to take over our family farm together, as a team.
